LTI Advantage® is an updated version of the original Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI)® specification from the
IMS Global Learning Consortium. It features a stronger security model, and built in tools like "deep linking" to simplify selecting vendor resources to use, such as Docuseek films.
Docuseek can deliver videos for viewing within your Learning Management System (LMS) using LTI. This method is an alternative to using a proxy server to ensure that your users are authenticated.
Docuseek supports Deep Linking, but not other LTI Advantage services like assignments and grading, which are not relevant to Docuseek.
In LTI Advantage parlance, Docuseek is a "tool", and your learning management system (LMS) is the "platform". For LTI Advantage to work, the tool and the platform need to know about each other. LTI information about Docuseek is located on the My Docuseek page, on the LTI tab. This information is only available in our newish UI, released in 2019. You may update your platform's LTI Advantage information via the same tab, or email it to
support@docuseek2.com, and we will fill it in for you.
Please note that different LMS's use different terminology to refer to the LTI Advantage settings.
There are two parts of setting things up to use Docuseek with LTI. First, someone at your institution must define Docuseek as an external tool that your LMS recognizes and can use. This is typically done by an LMS administrator. Once Docuseek has been set up as a tool, you can add Docuseek resources (=films) to an LMS course.
We identify the film that will be used as a resource using an LTI custom parameter. Custom parameters consist of two parts, a "key" and a "value". For Docuseek, the key = "film". The value for a film you have licensed may be retrieved from the Link To / Embed dialog, accessed via the Embed link on the film page, or by clicking the Link To/Embed button next to a film in the Licensed Films list.
Docuseek also supports Deep Linking, which allows you to launch a Docuseek advanced search form in your LMS, and locate a film to add to Docuseek. When you click on the Add link in the search results, the necessary information will be delivered to the LMS, including the custom parameter information. Note that Deep Linking searches will only return content that your institution has licensed.
All Docuseek LTI interactions are anonymous. Your LMS does not need to provide Docuseek with user names or other information.
Troubleshooting LTI 1.3
- Firefox has enhanced security features that may interfere with embedded Docuseek content. Try turning off "Enhanced Tracking Protection" (click the shield icon to the left of the URL at the top of the window.
